General
Information on POP/SMTP
To
configure your POP (Post Office Protocol)
compliant email software to retrieve email
from your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail account,
please follow these steps:
- Go
to the set up section of your email software.
- Set
the protocol (or mail server type) to
POP.
- Change
the Incoming Mail (POP) information to:
pop1.deltacom.net
- Change
your POP User Name or Account to your
new User Name, including the domain name,
using the following format:
login
name@domain name, e.g.,
jdoe@acme.com
- Change
your "Reply To" address to your
new Welcome to Deltacom Webmail address
(for example, jdoe@acme.com ).
- For
your Outgoing Mail (SMTP) information,
you may use our SMTP server address, smtp1.deltacom.net,
or your ISP's Outgoing Mail server address,
which you must obtain from your ISP. Note:
If using our SMTP server, you must use
secure authenticated SMTP.
- You
may have the option of leaving a copy
of your mail on our mail server. Please
note, if you select this option and POP
your mail, we can not warn you if you
exceed your storage quota. Accounts which
surpass storage quota will not be eligible
to receive incoming mail. Welcome to Deltacom
Webmail suggests deleting mail stored
at your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail account
on a routine basis.
All
of your outgoing (sent) email will now contain
your new Welcome to Deltacom Webmail address
in the "Reply To" line of the
header. All "replies" to your
email will now be sent to your Welcome to
Deltacom Webmail email address.
Note:
Your password for POP mail is the same as
your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail password.
POP/SMTP
and MS Exchange [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of MS Exchange to retrieve email from
your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail account,
please follow these steps:
- Go
to the Tool menu and click on "Services."
- Click
on the "Add" button.
- Make
sure Internet Mail is highlighted and
click on the "Add" button
(if this is your first time entering
the mail program). If you are entering
the mail program for the second time,
click on the "Properties"
button.
- Fill
in the Personal and Mailbox Information:
- Full
name: First and Last names
- Email
address: jdoe@acme.com
- Internet
Mail server: pop1.deltacom.net
- Account
name: jdoe@acme.com
- Password:
Enter your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
password.
- Click
on "Advanced Options."
- Forward
all outbound mail to the outgoing mail
server. Note: You may use our
SMTP server address, smtp1.Deltacom.net,
or your ISP's Outgoing Mail server address,
which you must obtain from your ISP.
- Click
on the "OK" button.
POP/SMTP and
Netscape Mail [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of Netscape Mail (with Navigator 3.0)
to retrieve email from your Welcome to
Deltacom Webmail account, please follow
these steps:
- Go
to the Options menu and select "Mail
and News Preferences."
- Within
the Preferences dialog box, click on
the "Servers" tab and fill
in the following information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: You may
use our SMTP server address, smtp1.Deltacom.net,
or your ISP's Outgoing Mail server address,
which you must obtain from your ISP.
Note: If you use our SMTP server
address, secure authenticated SMTP is
required. Authenticated SMTP is not
supported by some older mail clients.
- Incoming
Mail (POP) Server: pop1.deltacom.net
- POP
User Name: jdoe@acme.com
- Click
on the "Identity" tab and
fill in the areas for your name and
email address.
- When
prompted to enter a password, type in
the appropriate Welcome to Deltacom
Webmail password.
POP/SMTP
and Netscape Messenger [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of Netscape Messenger (with Netscape Communicator
4.0) to retrieve email from your Welcome
to Deltacom Webmail account, please follow
these steps:
- Go
to your browser's Edit menu and click
on "Preferences."
- Click
on the "+" sign next to "Mail
and Groups."
- Click
on "Identity" and fill in
the areas for your name and email address.
- Now
click on "Mail Server" and
fill in the fields with the following
information:
- Mail
server user name: jdoe@acme.com
- Outgoing
mail (SMTP) server: You may use our
SMTP server address, smtp1.Deltacom.net,
or your ISP's Outgoing Mail server
address, which you must obtain from
your ISP. Note: If you use
our SMTP server address, secure authenticated
SMTP is required. Authenticated SMTP
is not supported by some older mail
clients.
- Incoming
mail server: pop1.deltacom.net
- When
prompted to enter a password, type in
the appropriate Welcome to Deltacom
Webmail password.
POP/SMTP
and Outlook Express [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of MS Outlook Express (the mail program
for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0) to
retrieve email from your Welcome to Deltacom
Webmail account, please follow these steps:
- Go
to the Tools menu and click on "Accounts."
- Click
"Mail," click "Add,"
and then "Mail."
- Follow
the steps of the Internet Connection
Wizard.
- Display
name: Your full name (first and last
name)
- Email
address: jdoe@acme.com
- POP
Incoming mail server: pop1.deltacom.net
- SMTP
Outgoing mail server: You may use
our SMTP server address, smtp1.Deltacom.net,
or your ISP's Outgoing Mail server
address, which you must obtain from
your ISP. Note: If you use
our SMTP server address, secure authenticated
SMTP is required. Authenticated SMTP
is not supported by some older mail
clients.
- Password:
Enter your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
password
- POP
Account Name: jdoe@acme.com

- When
complete, click "Finish,"
and then "Close."

and Mac Outlook Express V5.02 [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of MS Outlook Express to retrieve email
from your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
account, please follow these steps:
- Go
to the Tools menu and click on "Accounts."
- Click
"Mail," click "New."
If "Account Setup Assistant"
opens, click "Configure Account
Manually." If "New Account"
opens, select Account Type POP then
click "OK."
- Account
Name: (This can be anything you want,
e.g., John Doe.)

You do this by clicking "click
here for advanced sending options."
- Check
"SMTP server requires authentication"
then select "Log on using"
- Account
ID: jdoe::acme.com
- Password:
Enter your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
password.
- Select
"SMTP service requires secure
connection (SSL) and "Override
default SMTP port." Set the port
to 465.
- When
complete, close.
- When
complete, click "OK."

and Outlook (98 and 2000) [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of MS Outlook (98 and 2000) to retrieve
email from your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
account, please follow these steps:
- For
initial setup: go to the Tool menu and
click "Services."
- Click
the "Add" button.
- Make
sure Internet Mail is highlighted and
click the "Add" button (if
this is your first time entering the
mail program). If you are entering the
mail program for the second time, click
the "Properties" button.
- Fill

and Outlook (2002 and higher) [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of MS Outlook (2002 and higher) to retrieve
email from your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
account, please follow these steps.
- Select
"Tools" and then "E-mail
Accounts" from the File Menu
- Select
"Add a new email account"
in the next window under the "Email"
Section, and select the "Next"
button
- At
the E-Mail Accounts window, select POP3
as your server type. Click "Next"
- In
the E-Mail Accounts window, fill out
all information completed as follows:
- Your
Name: Enter your name here.
- E-mail
Address: jdoe@acme.com
- Incoming
mail server: pop1.deltacom.net
- Outgoing
mail server: smtp1.Deltacom.net
- Username:
jdoe@acme.com
- Password:
Enter your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
password.
- Before
clicking next, select the "More
Settings..." button.
- The
"More Settings..." button
loads a new window with four tabs.
- Select
the "Outgoing Server" tab.
- Select
the checkbox that reads "My outgoing
server (SMTP) requires authentication."
- Click
on the Advanced tab.
- Check
both boxes labeled "This server
requires an encrypted connection"
(one for incoming, one for outgoing).
- Click
Ok to verify these settings
- Click
"Next" on the E-Mail Accounts
window.
- Click
"Finish" to complete account
setup.
POP/SMTP
and Thunderbird [top]
To configure your POP
(Post Office Protocol) compliant version
of Mozilla Thunderbird to retrieve email
from your Welcome to Deltacom Webmail
account, please follow these steps.
- Go
to the Tools menu and click on "Account
Settings".
- Click
"Add Account"
- Choose
"Email Account".
- Click
"Next".
- Follow
the steps of the Account Wizard.
- Under
"Getting Started", fill in
the following information:
- Your
Name: Your full name (e.g. John
Doe).
- Email
Address: jdoe@acme.com
- Type
of incoming server: POP
- Incoming
Server: pop1.deltacom.net
- Incoming
User Name: jdoe@acme.com
- Account
Name: Any name to identify the account
(e.g. Welcome to Deltacom Webmail).
- Finish
the Wizard and then choose "Outgoing
Server (SMTP)" from the menu on
the left of the Account Settings Page.
- Server
Name: smtp1.Deltacom.net
- Select
the checkbox for "Use name and
password".
- User
Name: jdoe@acme.com
- For
"Use secure connection", choose
"SSL".
- When
finished, click "Ok".
- When
prompted to enter a password, type in
the appropriate Welcome to Deltacom
Webmail password.
